The short version
Analytics only if you say yes. No advertising cookies, no tracking across sites, and your data is never sold.
Effective July 6, 2026. This policy describes what actually happens on this site, in plain language. There is nothing in the machinery that is not on this page.
Analytics, only with consent
When you first visit, a banner asks whether you accept analytics cookies. If you decline, no analytics load at all and the site works identically. If you accept, this site uses Google Analytics 4 to understand which posts get read, on what devices, and how readers arrive. That data is aggregated; Google acts as the processor and their privacy documentation covers their side. Google Analytics is the only analytics on this site. You can withdraw consent at any time by clearing this site’s cookies, after which the banner asks again.
Cookies
The complete census lives on the Cookie Policy page. In one line: one cookie remembers your consent answer, one session cookie remembers which posts you opened here so you are not recommended an article you just read, and Google Analytics cookies exist only if you accepted the banner.
The newsletter
If you subscribe, your email address goes to Kit (formerly ConvertKit), the service that sends the newsletter. It is used to send you the newsletter and for nothing else. Every email includes an unsubscribe link that works immediately, and the reply address is real and read by a person.
Affiliate links
At launch this site carries no active affiliate links. When affiliate links become active, they will be disclosed at the top of any post containing them, and clicking one may allow the merchant’s site to set its own cookies to credit the referral. That happens on the merchant’s site under the merchant’s policy; this site does not see what you buy. The Affiliate Disclosure explains the practice in full.
Server logs
Like nearly every website, the server hosting this site keeps standard technical logs (IP addresses, request times) for security and troubleshooting. They are not used to profile anyone.
Your rights (GDPR, CCPA, and common sense)
Whether or not a specific regulation applies to you, the practice here is the same:
- Ask what data exists about you, and get a straight answer.
- Ask for it to be corrected or deleted.
- Withdraw analytics consent at any time by clearing this site’s cookies; the banner will ask again.
Readers in the EU/EEA have these rights under the GDPR; California residents have analogous rights under the CCPA, including the right to know and the right to delete. This site does not sell personal information, so there is nothing to opt out of on that front. For any request, email [email protected] and it will be handled directly.
Children
This site is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from them.
Changes
If this policy changes, the change and its date will appear here. The promises in the short version are not planned to change.
